| Australian Open 2010, 1st Round Interview |
 |
| January 18, 2010 |
|
| Question |
From your viewpoint, what went wrong? |
| Maria Sharapova |
Just didn't win the match. You know, bottom line.
Uhm, you know, certainly had my chances and just didn't execute. You know, I felt like I was -- when she was up and then I'd get back there, back in the game, I just didn't take advantage of that and let her, you know, let her control the situation again. |
| Question |
What are the challenges of playing someone you know so well and is a friend? |
| Maria Sharapova |
Uhm, I mean, when we go on the court we don't really think about that. We just go out and we try to play our game, you know. No matter how well you know someone or not, it's a new day and a new match, and you just try to go out there and perform. |

| Maria Sharapova's Intervie From M2 Woman New Zealand Magazine |
 |
| December 10, 2009 |
|
Maria is featured in the December issue of M2 Woman New Zealand magazine and talks about a variety of things including moving from Russia to Florida as a child and her work as a UNDP ambassador.
Here is the interview:
In 2004, at just 17 years of age, the tennis prodigy, Maria Sharapova won Wimbledon. A journey to sporting stardom that had begun ten years earlier when she left her home of Russia as a seven-year-old to train in the US. A world away from her childhood life, Sharapova is now a sporting icon, a model, a TAG Heuer ambassador and a United Nations Development Project Goodwill Ambassador. |
| Question |
It must have been a hard time for you and your family when as a seven-year-old child you moved from Russia to Florida to train at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy. Did you have in mind then what it was all for, what you were making such sacrifices for? |
| Maria Sharapova |
Moving to the US was not easy for my family. t was really hard for my father and I to be away from my mother for two years. This was the worst part of the move by far but once my mother arrived and we were all together as a family, it did not matter where we were. I think the best part of the move was that it was the right move for me, my family believed in my talents and they brought me to a place that would allow me to reach all my dreams. |
| Question |
Do you feel like you missed out on just being a child? |
| Maria Sharapova |
I honestly would not change a thing about my childhood. Tennis has brought me so many things, has exposed me to so many different cultures and has allowed me to travel the world to meet so many great people. I am a very lucky girl. |

| Maria Sharapova's US Open 3rd Round Interview |
 |
| September 05, 2009 |
|
| Question |
You're one of the all time favorites in New York. What was it like to hear the crowd not necessarily on your side? |
| Maria Sharapova |
I think that's expected, considering she's an American, up and coming, obviously having a good win and winning two rounds. So it's totally expected for the crowd to be with her. |
| Question |
When did the arm start getting really tired? |
| Maria Sharapova |
It's just been an on going thing. I just needed a little warmup out there. |

| Maria Sharapova's US Open 2nd Round Interview |
 |
| September 03, 2009 |
|
| Question |
Your thoughts on the match, the way you're playing right now? |
| Maria Sharapova |
I thought I, you know, did a good job of starting off really good, especially not knowing her game, really how she played. I haven't seen much of her, if at all. So against those types of opponents, it's just really important to try to figure it out as fast as you can.
Once I did, I thought I did the right things. I thought I moved a little bit better than the other day and got good court coverage. |
| Question |
Your thoughts on playing Melanie, the upcoming match? |
| Maria Sharapova |
Yeah, I saw some of the match. I saw the way Elena played. I thought she could have done a few things better. Certainly, when Melanie had to step it up, she certainly did. In the times when she could have made errors, she came up with some really good shots. I mean, I've got a tough round ahead of me. Also somebody that I've never played against before, someone that's going to come out, and I'm sure she's gonna swing and have nothing to lose, which she doesn't.
But I'm looking forward to that. |
