| Maria Sharapova's Rogers Cup 2nd Round Interview |
 |
| August 19, 2009 |
|
| Question |
Pretty sketchy? |
| Maria Sharapova |
Yeah. I'm actually having a competition with myself to see how many errors and double faults I can make and still win the match in two sets. It's pretty interesting. |
| Question |
Didn't you give her four in one game when she was at ad? I think she won all the points on double faults. Is that a first? |
| Maria Sharapova |
Probably not. |

|
| Question |
You said on Friday I think you anticipated a good welcome from a lot of the Russian-speaking people. You seem to have gotten that tonight. Can you comment on that? |
| Maria Sharapova |
Yeah, I did. I saw a few Russian flags waving around, especially when I was finished with the match. I try to stay focused on my job when I'm playing the match, but I definitely heard them a little bit and I saw the Russian flags, so I knew they were there supporting me. That was great. |
| Question |
And your opponent, too? |
| Maria Sharapova |
Yeah, absolutely. When you're out there, you forget who you're playing, your compatriot or if you're playing somebody from another country. Yeah, it's all about the job ahead and your own side of the court and trying to win the match. |

| Maria Sharapova's Interview before Standford Tournament |
 |
| July 24, 2009 |
|
| Question |
If you would like to start with any opening comments, then we'll open it up for questions. |
| Maria Sharapova |
Questions are great. |
| Question |
How would you say your return from injury is going? |
| Maria Sharapova |
It's been wonderful. I went to Europe. I was there for seven weeks, then didn't have to come back earlier than planned. You know, I obviously was a little bit disappointed with Wimbledon. It was a tough match. With the way my arm held up, I was really happy.
You know, I came back. I went to work. I went back on the court, started working. |

| Maria Sharapova's Wimbledon 2009 2nd Round Interview |
 |
| June 24, 2009 |
|
| Question |
What are your thoughts? |
| Maria Sharapova |
Uhm, no real thoughts. I lost the match (smiling). |
| Question |
Do you, yourself, understand what happened this afternoon? |
| Maria Sharapova |
Uhm, yes. I mean, if I'm smart enough, I should know. It took me a while to get going. It's a little too late to start picking yourself up when you're down a set and 3-0. You know, it's a little late. |

| Maria Sharapova's Wimbledon 2009 1st Round Interview |
 |
| June 22, 2009 |
|
| Question |
In Paris you played with a lot of enthusiasm and energy. As far as your level of fitness is concerned, are we seeing Maria almost a hundred percent or getting close to it? |
| Maria Sharapova |
I think there's still work to be done. I think, uhm, all the matches that I've been playing have really helped me, you know, definitely not just with my tennis but also physically, you know, getting used to the movement on the court as well as, you know, moving on two different surfaces.
But, uhm, you know, I always feel like I move pretty good on grass. |
| Question |
The other day you spoke of probably not being ready to go all the way at this particular event. How much more do you think you need to feel confident in your status right now to feel that you are ready to go all the way here? |
| Maria Sharapova |
Uhm, I think it's just a matter of a few things coming together. Uhm, you know, you never really know.
You know, sometimes you produce good tennis, but it doesn't work out the way you want it and you come out with a loss. Sometimes, uhm, you know, you don't produce exactly the right tennis that you want to, but, you know, sometimes you win.
And, you know, in tennis, there's a very thin line between winning and losing, and, you know, sometimes you just got to rely on the work that you put behind you. You got to go on the court and trust that whatever you've worked on, you know, is gonna work out there.
Uhm, you know, it's just the combination of a few things coming together, you know: body feeling good, you know, playing good, moving well. You know, I'm just glad, you know, I pulled through today. |
