Maria did a meet and greet with Turkish junior players. Ayda Uluc, president of the TTF, introduced her to the 20 children. She hit with each of them, held a Q and A session where they asked her questions, signed autographs for them and posed for photos.
Maria says:
“I'm doing well, I got here a little early to get used to everything and play on the courts, get used to be playing indoors and the climate. It has been going really well so far, my foot is doing better and I have about 6 days until the tournament starts so, so far so good. |

The World No. 2 ranked Maria Sharapova of Russia has arrived in Istanbul to take part in the WTA Championships, which is scheduled to kick off on 25th to 30th October, 2011.
Russian star Sharapova has sustained foot injury in the quarter finals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open, where she has withdrawn from the tournament playing against 2011 Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova. Sharapova also pulled out of the China Open, as she is looking very positive to return back to court at Istanbul tournament. |

The three-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova will play Russia’s Fed Cup tie match against France on 5th and 6th February on next year, schedule to play Moscow.
The 24-year-old Sharapova has been pulled out of the 2011 China Open last month, where she suffering foot injury in the 2011 Toray Pan Pacific Open tournament playing against 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova. Sharapova said she will recover soon, as she has working hard on her rehab and also begin training session for the upcoming tournament in Istanbul. Sharapova has qualified for the WTA Tour Championships, which will begin on 25th October in Istanbul. |

World no. 2 Maria Sharapova has begun practicing in Los Angeles. on Thursday, for the first time since twisting her ankle in Tokyo more than a week ago. The Russian now appears likel yto play the WTA Championships in Istanbul. She has been training with her father, Yuri, who no longer coaches her on the road but does train with her at home.
Sharapova has already qualified for the WTA Tour Championships and has an outside chance to overtake Caroline Wozniacki as world no. 1. There are seven different scenarios where it could happen, but only one of those has Sharapova just having to reach the Istanbul final, and the other six have her being forced to win the title. |

When Flavia Pennetta upset World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki, it was a huge win for the Italian to finally taste victory after five straight losses in as many attempts against the Dane. Even more importantly than the victory was for Pennetta, it proved to be even bigger for No. 2 Maria Sharapova, who now holds an outside chance of finishing the year at No. 1.
Forced to withdraw from Beijing this year due to injury, Sharapova was unable to defend a small amount of points she had earned last year before being defeated in the second round. Wozniacki was unable to defend her points as defending champion in Beijing, meaning that she will lose 750 points, shrinking the gap between Wozniacki and Sharapova to 1475 points. |

TOKYO — Maria Sharapova twisted her ankle while serving Thursday and quit her Pan Pacific Open quarterfinal against Petra Kvitova in a rematch of this summer’s Wimbledon final.
Kvitova was ahead 4-3 in the first set when Sharapova was injured. Sharapova limped to her chair and pulled out after speaking with her trainer. She went to a hospital for an MRI.
