Maria Sharapova, the world No.7 Russian tennis player after her unbelievable performance this year since the last three months is one of the Favourite players in Paris to clinch the on-going French Open 2011 tournament, which is being held at Roland Garros, Paris.
The Russian former world No.1 winning three grand slam title in her career with 2004-Wimbledon, 2008-Australian Open and 2006-U.S Open is still in run to clinch her first French Open title in her career.
Sharapova after her exceptional performance in 2011 Internazionali BNL d’Italia clay tournament defeating Samantha Stosur in finals to win her first title of the season and her biggest victory on clay-court has continued her form in the French Open 2011.
She has been playing extremely well in the French Open 2011; Sharapova has thrashed out Mirjana Lucic in straight sets in her first round encounter with a score line of 6-3 6-0,in the second round Caroline Garcia with 3-6 6-4 6-0 and in the third round, she thrashed out Yung-Jan Chan in straight sets with 6-2 6-3.
However, in the Fourth round encounter, sharapova has survived a see-saw struggle to beat world No.15, Agnieszka Radwanska and entered into the quarterfinals of the second major of the season in Paris. She has started of the match against Radwanska trailing with 4-1 in the first set. However, she has recovered well and pushed into the game and finally taken the set in the tie break with 7-6(4) and in the second set opened on a favorable note, Sharapova broke Radwanska’s serve in the second game to lead the match formidably.
However, Radwanska then raised the level of her game to first get the break back and then win Sharapova’s service game with her fine returns of serve to lead the set 5-3. Sharapova then reeled off four games in a row to complete the 7-6(4), 7-5 win in exactly two hours of play.
By seeing her performance in the fourth round of the 2011 French Open, she can pull-up her socks’ to clinch her first title at the Roland Garros. She will be facing her quarterfinals match against Andrea Petkovic on Wednesday to enter into the final four of the tournament.
