Cole Haan's Spring Campaign Features Maria Sharapova

February 10, 2011

Maria Sharapova does ballet chic in Spring 2011 Cole Haan ads. Photo: Courtesy of Cole Haan For its Spring 2011 ad campaign, Cole Haan has pulled together an eclectic group of people who all have one thing in common: consistent innovation.

The ads, shot by Koto Bolofo in New York and Sarasota, Fla., feature six subjects: tennis star and Cole Haan collaborator Maria Sharapova, songwriter and producer Theophilus London, artist Kate Neckel, and the buzz-worthy entrepreneurs behind culture magazine Dossier, design studio Bureau V and Bamboo Bike Studio.

The ad likely to get the most play in March fashion magazines shows the recently engaged Sharapova reclining against a wall in a white-and-silver tutu dress and dusty purple cardigan, with Cole Haan's butter-soft leather accessories scattered around her.

Fashionable singer-producer Theophilus London shows off Cole Haan's fancy shoes. Photo: Courtesy of Cole Haan We are particularly digging the pale-gray strappy heels featuring Nike Air technology that she wears on her feet. (Perhaps a similar version in white will be worn on her big day?) The lace-up feature, combined with the aforementioned tutu, is inciting very welcomed "Black Swan" flashbacks.

We also love the similarly simple ads showing the downtown-cool editors of Dossier and the super-stylish musical artist London, all showing off pristine Cole Haan kicks.

This isn't the first season Cole Haan campaigns have ditched actors and models in favor of "real people." For the 2010 holiday season, the company highlighted six small-business owners with loads of style. (See them over at colehaan.com/inspired.) Other companies smitten with nonprofessional models include Tod's and J.Crew.
