The draw for the first premier mandatory event of 2010 has been released. Maria will be playing the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells and she is seeded #10 and has a bye in the 1st round. In the 2nd round, Maria will play either Jelena Dokic of Australia or Vera Dushevina of Russia. This match will be played on Friday or Saturday.
Maria has played both Dokic and Dushevina once before and won both matches. The 1st seed Maria can meet is #18 seed Jie Zheng of China in the 3rd round and is seeded to meet #7 seed Na Li of China in the 4th round.
Last year Maria played doubles here as she was still rehabilitating her shoulder. Maria has played Indian Wells 7 times before and her best result was taking the title in 2006. Indian Wells is a premier mandatory event played on hardcourts.
