Maria Sharapova will attempt to retain her Pan Pacific Open title after agreeing to return to Tokyo next month.
The Russian has been confirmed as one of 27 players from the current world top 30 who will take part in the $2million hard court tournament from September 26-October 2.
Sharapova captured her first WTA singles and doubles titles at the 2003 Japan Open, and, of her 22 wins to date, four have come in Tokyo.
Last year, Sharapova put an end to a long injury lay-off by winning her first title since 2008, beating Jelena Jankovic of Serbia in the final. Resources : http://www.skysports.com/
