Maria defeated Ioana Raluca Olaru to reach the 3rd round at Wimbledon. Maria won the match 6-1 6-4 in 1 hour and 24 minutes.
Maria came out firing in the first set which she won 6-1 in 32 minutes. Maria serve was very effective throughout the set and she won 11/11 points at the net.
Maria faced more resistance in the second set, although Maria broke Olaru early on in the set, Olaru broke in the 8th game to level the set 4-4. Maria then re-took control of the set as she took the next 2 games to take the set 6-4 in 52 minutes.
In the 3rd round to be played on Saturday, Maria will play Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic. In WTA competition they have played once before at Amelia Island on clay in 2008 and Maria won 6-1 6-3.
