Maria Sharapova Defeat Petra Martic - Sony Ericsson Open 2011

Maria played and won her first match at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami since 2007 as she defeated Petra Martic of Croatia 6-3 6-2 in 66 minutes.

Maria's serve was broken once throughout the entire match and she had a solid 75% on 1st serve points won and 63% on 2nd serve points won.

After the win, Maria said: "It has been way too long. This is one of my favorite events. It's crazy I've missed it this many years. I'm just so happy to be back. I love playing in front of this crowd, they're so enthusiastic. They love their sports and have that Latin flavor. It's fun."

In Saturday's 3rd round match, Maria will face world no.217 Sabine Lisicki of Germany. Maria has never played Lisicki before. Lisicki's highest ranking is no.22 but she slipped down the rankings due to injury.

In the WTA rankings, Maria provisionally moves up to No.9 with 3106 points.
