Maria Sharapova the beautiful Russian tennis player is engaged to Los Angeles Lakers basketball player Sasha Vujacic, of Slovenia as has been confirmed to CNBC.
Sasha Vujacic is a sports star in his own right, as he is playing basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers said he’s engaged to marry Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova.
Sasha popped the question to the 23-year-old tennis superstar on Tuesday night at his Manhattan Beach, Calif. home.
The couple has been together since last year, when they were spotted together at a U2 concert in Los Angeles and got engaged Tuesday after Sasha got on one knee at his home in Manhattan Beach, CA.
Vujacic said he proposed on the one-year anniversary of their first meeting at a friend’s barbecue. “It’s was probably old school,” Vujacic said. “I had to do it like a gentlemen.”
“We are engaged and are both really happy,” Vujacic said on Thursday before the Lakers’ NBA pre-season game against Golden State. “It’s good and now we can focus on other things.”
Vujacic said a wedding date hasn’t been set.
The agent for three-time Grand Slam champion Sharapova confirmed the news in an e-mail to AP.
