Three-time grand slam champion Maria Sharapova says that the London 2012 Olympics is a huge target for her as she looks for a long-awaited run without injuries.
The Russian superstar has struggled with shoulder problems in the last couple of years - an injury that forced her to miss out on the Beijing Games in 2008.
After playing in the Australian Open this year, a virus kept her out of action until she returned at the Indian Wells Masters event last week, where she enjoyed a good run to the semi-finals.
The 23-year-old has fond memories of watching the Olympics back home in Russia, and despite her move to America and her career taking her all around the world, she is still desperate to represent the country of her birth at an Olympics.
Sharapova, who sprung to prominence by winning Wimbledon as a 17-year-old, would love to return to SW19 to claim an Olympic medal in 2012.
“The Olympics is one of my biggest goals, as an athlete growing up in Russia the Olympics was a huge part of our culture so I can't wait to be an Olympian”. said Maria Sharapova
