Maria defeated qualifier Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia to advance to the third round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Maria won 6-1 7-5 in 1 hour and 33 minutes.
The first set Maria came out firing and dropped only one game, the second set was a lot closer with both players fighting for every point. Jovanovski took a 4-2 lead but Maria showed her legendary fighting spirit by taking five of the next six games to take the match.
In Thursday's third match Maria will face another qualifier, Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan. This match will be played on Centre Court and willl start at around 15.00 local time. Maria has played Voskoboeva once before in Doha in 2008 and won 6-4 4-6 6-1.
