PARIS (AP) — Maria Sharapova battled back from 3-6 1-4 down against Caroline Garcia of France to advance to the 3rd round of Roland Garros. She won 11 straight games to beat 17-year-old French wild card Caroline Garcia 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 Thursday in the second round of the French Open in just under 2 hours.
In the 1st set Maria very bad start, making many unforced errors and poor mobility, advancement Grace 5-1 2-0 and then getting to the set, but Mary was waking up (albeit slowly) to win 2 games and Garcia again to take the 40-0 September 5 to 3 was removed on September 2 Mary achievement off point but could not with the 3rd and Garcia took the set 6-3.
The match wasn't looking good for Maria and she was down against Garcia, who was playing in only her second tournament, was up two breaks and 1-4 in the 2nd set but but Mary has demonstrated that mental strength and regain the breaks to go to lead the set 5-4 and then broke to win the set 6-4 a great recovery.
The momentum continued in the 3rd set as Maria continued her winning streak of games and didn't drop a game as she proved to be a gladiator winning 6 straight games (plus 5 of the previous set had 11 straight games in the game) to take the set and match 6-0.
In Saturday's 3rd round match, Maria will play Yung-jan Chan of Taipei. Maria has played the 21-year-old twice before and leads the series 2-0. Both matches were in 2007 at Miami and Wimbledon and Maria won both matches in straight sets.
In the WTA rankings, Maria provisionally is up to No.6 with 4481 points.
