After lingering on the edge for the greater period of last season, former World No. 1 Maria Sharapova of Russia seems to be regaining the relentless form in the new season to make up for the lost opportunities quickly. The Russian plays Alexandra Dulgheru in the quarterfinal and certainly enjoys a huge edge over Dulgheru due to her current form...
Sixteenth seeded Maria Sharapova of Russia earned a straight sets victory over Samantha Stosur in her last match and sent a strong messages to her opponents that she is here to test them. Well, it’s good for women’s tennis to see Sharapova coming in her usual form that saw her achieving the numero uno position. Well, the Russian will take on World No. 28 Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania in the quarterfinal of the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open, a WTA Premier Event, being played here in Miami. Dulgheru has not a good new season so far.
The Romanian has won 2 WTA titles in her career, but she has been struggling with her current form. In fact, she could only win a single match before coming to this tournament. Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru reached this spot after trashing Chinese Shuai Peng in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-4 score line.
On the other hand, Sharapova has a 9-4 win-loss-record this season and the Russian has been quickly improving with every match, she has been playing.
This will be the first meeting between the two contenders and Sharapova is crushing favourite in this duel.
