Sharapova has not been playing to her best standards in the recent past as she lost to Caroline Wozniacki in the fourth round of the US Open last year. Sharapova did well to beat Jarmila Groth and Iveta Benesova in the previous rounds and could not keep the momentum flowing against the Dane.
Suarez Navarro from Spain has been trying hard to play her best but has had a few second round defeats in the past months. She will be looking forward to play the experienced Russian as a win or a tough score would surely boost her confidence.
Sharapova's win/loss record for this year stands at 33/11. Suarez Navarro has as win/loss record of 26/17 this year. This will be the first time that both the players will be playing each other on the WTA circuit.
Sharapova has shown her spirit and willingness to play productive tennis at the highest levels and will continue to do so in this tournament. Sharapova will be looking forward to win this title in order to improve her rankings. At the same time Suarez Navarro will have to raise the bar and try something different to catch the Russian former world number one off guard and get her under pressure. Both the players would bring in a lot of crafted rallies with the help of their aggressive strokeplay in today's match.
