Russia’s Dinara Safina and Maria Sharapova have advanced into the final sixteen of the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament in Indian Wells, California, and will now be facing off for a place in the quarterfinals.
Sharapova earlier made easy work of France’s Aravane Rezai and Safina sensationally ousted Australia’s formidable Samantha Stosur.
Nadezhda Petrova, also of Russia, and China’s Shuai Pen, will fight it out for a berth in the quarterfinals.
On Monday Kleibanova scored a two-set win over Italy’s Flavia Pennetta and now prepares to take on the tournament’s first seed, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.
