Maria Sharapova from Russia has managed to improve her form and has nailed her spot right back into the top ten. She will be playing another Russian, Ekaterina Makarova in the second round of the Madrid Open.
Maria Sharapova is ranked at number 9 among the WTA rankings where as Ekaterina Makarova is ranked at number 39 in the world. It will be a match filled with brisk rallies as it is an encounter between two accomplished baseline players.
Sharapova reached the quarterfinals at Auckland and then went on to reach the semi-finals at Indian Wells. She looks to be a little jerky as she had to fight for a tough three set victory against Alexandra Rus in her previous match. The Russian will try to improve her form in order to record a few match wins at this tournament to seal her place in the top ten.
Makarova has not been churning out results in previous tournaments as she has been popping out of first and second rounds of major tournaments. It is a different case now as she has got an electrifying start to the tournament with a commanding win over young Belgian, Yanina Wickmayer. She will look forward to her match against Sharapova.
Both the players have never met before and this is the first time that they will be playing each other. Sharapova can smack forehands and club it with tactical volleys under pressure situations. On the other hand Makarova can create magnificent groundstrokes from the back of the court. Sharapova should be able to win this one in three tough sets.
