Maria won her 1st round match at Memphis in impressive fashion as she recorded a straight set win over Shenay Perry of the United States. Maria won 6-0 6-2 in 51 minutes.
The 1st set was over in 18 minutes as Maria recorded a love set against Perry.
Maria raced into a 2-0 lead in the 2nd set, Perry broke Maria in the next game but Maria re-grouped and dropped only 1 more game as she took the set 6-2 in 33 minutes.
In the 2nd round to be played on Wednesday, Maria will be up against #137 Bethanie Mattek-sands of the United States. Maria has played Mattek-sands 3 times before and leads the series 3-0. The last meeting was in Roland Garros in 2008 on clay and Maria won in 3 sets.
