Maria became the first big name casualty to go out of the 2010 Australian Open as she lost 6-7 6-3 4-6 to Maria Kirilenko of Russia in 3 hours and 22 minutes.
The match was played with the roof on as it was raining and Maria had chances in the first set as she had a 4-2 lead but Kirilenko was able to get a break back and force a tie-break which she won 7-4.
Maria levels the match in the second set as she breaks early in the 2nd set and this one break is enough to take a second set 6-3.
Kirilenko takes a 5-2 lead in the deciding set, it looked like Maria was coming back as she takes the next two games to get the match back on serve but she loses her serve as Kirilenko takes the set and match.
