Maria Sharapova Defeats Olga Govortsova and Through to Stanford 2010 Quarters

Maria defeated Olga Govortsova of Belarus 6-3 6-3 in 1 hour and 19 minutes to advance to the quarters of the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford.

There was a trade of breaks in the first 2 games of the first set, all games were held on serve until Maria broke Govortsova to lead 5-3.  Maria held her serve in the next game to take the set 6-3 in 38 minutes.

In the second set, Maria immediately broke in the first game.  Both players then held their serves until the last game when Maria brok Govortsova to take the set and the match.

Maria will be playing #2 seed Elena Dementieva of Russia in the quarters on Friday.  Maria has played Dementieva 11 times before and leads the series 8-3.
