Maria scored her first claycourt win of 2010 at the Internationaux de Strasbourg in Strasbourg, France today as she defeated Regina Kulikova of Russia 6-3 3-6 6-1 in 2 hours and 14 minutes.
In the first set all games were hold of serve until Maria broke to lead 5-3. Maria then held her serve in a tense deuce game to take the set 6-3 in 49 minutes.
The second set didn't go according to plan as Maria lost it 6-3 in 48 minutes but she did have chances to get the set back on serve in the final game but Kulikova held her nerve to take the set.
Maria took control of the match in the 3rd set as she dropped only 1 game.
In the 2nd round to be played on Wednesday, Maria will play either Tatjana Malek of Germany or Dia Evtimova of Bulgaria.
