The world No. 7 ranked Maria Sharapova seems to be one of the top seeds in the French Open tournament, after her Rome Masters victory on last week.
Sharapova had won a Championship nearly one year back and she wants to reintroduce herself as a serious contender to clinch the tournament this year. She had not won a single French Open title in her career.
The Russian star is having an opportunity to lift the title this year, where Serena Williams and Venus Williams are pulled out of 2011 French Open, due to Injuries. The world No. 2 Kim Clijsters is unclear about her playing in the Roland Garros event. Recently, Sharapova has been thrashed world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the Rome Masters semi-finals and defeated Samantha Stosur in the finals with a 6-2 and 6-4 scoreline.
The former No. 1 Sharapova has won US Open in 2006 and Australian Open in 2008. She went down in early 2009, as she was struggling with injuries on right shoulder and right elbow. Sharapova is one of the handful players in the game and looking good in this season. She could win the French Open title, but she had to face tough fight against best competitors. The Russian tennis star could have met Caroline Wozniacki, Vera Zvonareva, Francesca Schiavone and Victoria Azarenka in the tournament.
