The draw for the first Grand Slam of the year at the Australian Open in Melbourne, Australia has been released and Maria is seeded No.14 and will play Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand in the 1st round This match will be played on Monday or Tuesday.
Maria has played Tanasugarn 3 times before and leads the series 3-0. Below are the matches they have played:
Tokyo 2004 - Maria won 6-2 6-3
San Diego 2007 - Maria won 6-1 6-3

Tiffany & Co. today announced that tennis champion Maria Sharapova will wear earrings by Tiffany designer and world-renowned architect Frank Gehry at the Australian Open, January 17 – January 30 at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia.
Mr. Gehry applied his free-form approach to a basic leaf design, creating a striking shape outlined in sparkling round brilliant diamonds and 18 karat white gold. “The earrings reflect the spontaneous and graceful lines of Gehry’s architecture,” Ms. Sharapova said. “They have a strong and distinctive look, yet they’re elegant and light enough to wear on the court. I am thrilled to wear them at the Australian Open."

As usual, the women's Dubai Championship will not lack for star power. Not when the world No 1, four former No 1s and seven of the current top 10 have committed to play in the annual event at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre.
Caroline Wozniacki holds pride of place as the current No 1, but the Dane faces competition from Venus Williams, the defending champion, as well as the three other former world No 1s who are planning to play in Dubai, Russia's Maria Sharapova and Serbia's Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic. |

Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova climbed up 2 spots in the Women Tennis Association's rankings to 16th place on Monday.
Former World No. 1 Sharapova, 23, who recently made an impressive comeback after shoulder injury, lost her quarter-final 6-2 7-5 to Hungarian Greta Arn at the WTA Tour tournament in Auckland last week. |

Tennis flop Maria Sharapova served herself up a chick flick and a greasy kebab to help get over her shock defeat at the ASB Classic this week.
The Russian beauty feasted on a large chicken kebab with extra garlic yoghurt and rice from the Chargrill Kebab Burger in central Auckland after being swept aside by eventual winner Greta Arn on Thursday.
The 23-year-old sent her Swedish coach Thomas Hogstedt to pick up takeaways while she stayed in her room at the Heritage Hotel. |
