Arguably, there is no other player on the WTA tour who embodies the symbiosis between performance and style on court as impressively as Maria Sharapova. Starting January 1st, 2011 the 23 year-old Russian is combining her style with the performance of HEAD as Sharapova is joining the very successful team of the “HEAD Racquet Rebels”.
HEAD is extremely proud to announce this newest addition to its player portfolio, which currently already includes – with Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Robin Soderling - the world’s number three, four and five ranked player on the ATP World Tour. Johan Eliasch, CEO of HEAD N.V.:“We are proud to have Maria on board with so many other great tennis athletes like Novak, Andy and Robin. She definitely helps us build a much stronger women’s team together with Victoria Azarenka and Svetlana Kuznetsova.” |

| Maria Sharapova Shows She's Worth It |
 |
January 04, 2011
Maria Sharapova showed that she's worth all the money and publicity for this year's ASB Classic as she cruised into the second round.
Sharapova has played a significant factor in making all of the day sessions for this year's tournament a sell-out and it's clear Kiwi tennis fans are falling in love with the Russian starlet.
She enthralled the 3200 seater centre court yesterday blitzing past her opponent Alberta Brianti 6-2 6-3 in an hour and 35 minutes.
The only real issue of the day was a last minute change of opponent for her. |

In a testament to the Maria Sharapova effect, the soldout sign has gone up for every day session of the ASB Classic tennis tournament in Auckland this week.
Organisers today said there were limited gate sales available for the three nights sessions, which are today, tomorrow and on Thursday.
Because of television coverage, Sharapova's matches on the 3200-capacity centre court are being scheduled for during the day. |

| Maria Sharapova's Opponent Changes |
 |
January 03, 2011
Maria Sharapova has had a last minute change of opponent at the ASB Classic.
While Britain's Heather Watson was beating Alberta Brianti in the final round of qualifying on court four, it was announced that fifth seed Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia had pulled out of the tournament with the flu.
It meant that Maria Sharapova's opponent Carla Suarez Navarro was now the eighth seed and would take Sevastova's place in the draw and will now play against Italy's Romina Oprandi tomorrow instead.
So now playing against Sharapova is Brianti, who was given another life as a "lucky loser". |

Sharapova has not been playing to her best standards in the recent past as she lost to Caroline Wozniacki in the fourth round of the US Open last year. Sharapova did well to beat Jarmila Groth and Iveta Benesova in the previous rounds and could not keep the momentum flowing against the Dane.
Suarez Navarro from Spain has been trying hard to play her best but has had a few second round defeats in the past months. She will be looking forward to play the experienced Russian as a win or a tough score would surely boost her confidence. |
