Maria's US Open run ended today after she lost to #1 seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 3-6 4-6 in the 4th round.
Maria showed flashes of her best game, with powerful groundstrokes that her opponent could not handle, and she was clearly the player dictating the game, hitting either a winner or an error.

Maria will be playing for a place in the quarters at the US Open on Monday, and top seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark stands in her way. This will be their first official meeting in over 2 years.
The 2 meetings they played against in each other were in 2008 and Maria won both matches in straight sets. They first played in Doha on hardcourts in February and Maria dropped just one game. Then a few months later they played on clay in Rome and this time the match was tougher as Maria won 6-4 7-6.

Yeah, you know, this was a new day. And what happened last year, you know, I didn't really want to go into the match thinking about it. You know, obviously I had lost the match and made way too many unforced errors. On a day like today, I just wanted to make sure I was consistent and did the right thing, and, you know, maybe didn't go for the lines as much and just played smart tennis.

Maria defeated Beatrice Capra of the United States 6-0 6-0 in 1 hour and 13 minutes to reach the 4th round at the US Open.
The wind played a big factor throughout the match but Maria's experience prevailed against a player who is playing her 1st Grand Slam. Maria had a good percentage on getting her 1st serve in at 67% and won 80% of points on first serve and 40% of points on second serve. Maria didn't face a break point on her during the match.

In the third round to be played on Saturday at the US Open, Maria will play Beatrice Capra of the United States. This match is the 2nd match on Arthur Ashe Stadium and the schedule of play begins at 11.00ET.
Maria has never played Capra before who got into the main draw via a wildcard. |
