No one can accuse Maria Sharapova of not planning for the future. While Andy Murray has been sporting his new range of Adidas clothing in the build-up to next week's Australian Open – a deal worth up to £15m over five years, including bonuses – Sharapova today signed the most lucrative deal ever for a sportswoman, worth $70m (£43m) to the Russian over eight years.

Maria defeated Caroline Wozniacki of Team Europe at the Hong Kong Tennis Classic in the final to give Team Russia the one point they needed for the win. Maria won 7-5 6-3 in 1 hour and 37 minutes.
In the 1st set that lasted 56 minutes, Wozniacki took a 5-3 lead but Maria saved 2 set-points as she came back to take the next 4 games to take the set 7-5. |

Maria had 2 wins out of 2 today in Hong Kong as she helped put Team Russia in the final.
In Maria's singles match she defeated Jie Zheng of China 6-7 6-4 6-2 and then later on in the night she teamed up with Yevgeny Kafelnikov and they defeated Ayumi Morita and Paradorn Srichaphan 6-4 7-5. |

Undoubtedly, Maria has been one of the shining stars on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour over the past decade and as this noughties is over we thought that we would review the highlights.
In the 00's Maria won 3 Grand Slams, 20 titles and was number 1 for 17 weeks. For 5 straight years (2003-2008) Maria finished the year in the top 10. Maria's biggest winning streak was in 2006 from US Open to Sony Ericsson Championships where she won 19 straight matches. |
