World no. 2 Maria Sharapova has begun practicing in Los Angeles. on Thursday, for the first time since twisting her ankle in Tokyo more than a week ago. The Russian now appears likel yto play the WTA Championships in Istanbul. She has been training with her father, Yuri, who no longer coaches her on the road but does train with her at home.
Sharapova has already qualified for the WTA Tour Championships and has an outside chance to overtake Caroline Wozniacki as world no. 1. There are seven different scenarios where it could happen, but only one of those has Sharapova just having to reach the Istanbul final, and the other six have her being forced to win the title.
