Maria's good form in Rome is continuing as she defeated No.10 seed Shahar Peer of Israel 6-2 6-2 in 70 minutes to reach the quarters.
Maria was down quickly 0-2 in the first set but she took six straight games to take the set 6-2 when Peer double-faulted.
The good form from the first set continued in the second as Maria was always in control and needed two breaks to secure victory and won the match on a soaring backhand winner.
After the match, Maria said: “I had a little bit of a slow start. I was able to raise my level and find a good rhythm and play better as the match went on. For me it's about getting as many matches as I can going into the French Open. I had a few three-setters in Madrid, which hurt me in the last match I played there, but I’m happy I've been able to win here without losing a set so far. I’m feeling confident right now.”
In Friday’s quarter-final to be played on Centre Court at 19.30 local time, Maria will play No.3 seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus. Maria has played the Belarussian 5 times before and trails the series 2-3 - they have never played on clay.
