Maria Sharapova’s Path To The U.S. Open Final Is Getting Easier And Easier

Maria Sharapova may be the biggest benefactor of three big-name women bowing out of the U.S. Open early.

Maria would have probably had to face the No. 5 seed and Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinals. But Kvitova lost in the first round yesterday.

In addition, Venus Williams was in Sharapova’s half of the bracket before she had to drop out of the tournament this afternoon.

What’s it mean?

Sharapova won’t have to play a single-digit seed until the semifinals, and has no chance of meeting a Williams sister until the finals.
