2011 Wimbledon finalists, Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova will be once again squaring off this season in the 2011 Tokyo Open to secure their place in the final four of the on-going tournament in Tokyo.
World No.2, Maria Sharapova will be battling against the world No.5, Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Toray Pan Pacific Tennis Open on Thursday, 29th September, 2011 at 02:05 GMT in the WTA world tour tournament, which is being held in Tokyo, Japan.
This will be the third encounter between both the players, as the top seeded players in WTA leveled their head to head encounter. However, the precious encounter between both of them was in finals of the 2011 Wimbledon Open at the All The England Club in London, as the Czech, Kvitova has knocked out former Russian No.1, Maria Sharapova in straight sets with a score line of 6-3 6-4.
World No.2, Maria Sharapova has been in the top class form this season having won Two-Masters title at Rome and Cincinnati has got a 42-11 win-loss record for 2011. Russian has been thrashed out in the fourth round of the Australian Open, reached Semifinals in French Open, Finals in Wimbledon and was beaten in very third round of the last grand slam tournament in US Open.
Maria Sharapova had to battle through two massive tie-break sets to surpass Julia Goerges with 7-6(4), 7-6(4) to enter into the quarterfinals of the 2011 Toray Pan Pacific Open.
Petra Kvitova has started her season by clinching the very first Brisbane Open; the Czech player continued her form winning four titles, including the massive Wimbledon title, which is her career first Grand slam title.
World No.5, Kvitova having got a win-loss record of 45-11 this season has knocked out the American player, Vania King in straight sets with 6-1 7-6 to set-up an another clash against former No.1, Sharapova.
