The World No. 7 ranked Maria Sharapova and Svetlana Kuznetsova will clash in the third round of the 2011 Western & Southern Open tournament in Cincinnati. The match will begin at 16:30 GMT on Thursday.
The Russian star Maria Sharapova has reached the third round, after smashing World No. 12 ranked Anastasia Rodionova in the second round of the 2011 Western & Southern Open event. Sharapova has been impressed with her performance in this season, where she has reached the semi final at French Open and 2011 Wimbledon final.
The 24-year-old Sharapova will face her country mate Svetlana Kuznetsova in the third round on Thursday. The Word No. 13th ranked Russian star has overcome against Petra Cetkovska of Czech Republic in three sets in the second round with a 4-6, 6-3 and 6-4 and hammered Jill Craybas of United States in the opening round with a 6-3 and 6-4.
Both the players are clashing for the 10th occasion, where Sharapova leads with a 5-4 win-loss head-to-head record against Kuznetsova. The pair has last played in the 2010 Cincinnati Masters, where Sharapova won the match in three sets with a 6-4, 1-6 and 6-2. The odds favors’ to Sharapova will bag the victory in three sets and advance into the fourth round of the Cincinnati Masters event on Thursday.
