US Open 2011 Draw Released

The draw for the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year at the US Open has been released and Maria is seeded No.3 and will face Heather Watson of Great Britain in the first round. Maria has never played Watson before.

The first seed Maria can meet is No.26 seed Flavia Pennetta of Italy in the third round. Chinese No.13 seed Shuai Peng could be a possible opponent in Round 4. Maria is seeded to meet Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the quarters. No.2 seed Vera Zvonareva could be a possible opponent in the semis. Top seed Caroline Wozniacki, No.3 seed Victoria Azarenka and No.28 seed Serena Williams round off the draw in the top half.

This will be Maria's eighth appearance at the US Open and her best result was winning in 2006. Last year Maria reached the fourth round.
