Maria Sharapova Eyes First Ever Win At French Open to Complete Career Grand Slam
It has been a long time since Maria Sharapova won a major tournament, but she is choosing the right time get it back together.
The world's former No. 1 player saw the current No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki, bow out early and also got help when Kim Clijsters (although never good on clay) also got sent packing early.
Sharapova got her first win in over a year a few weeks back in the final tune up for the French Open in Rome, but still had a ways to go to make it work at Roland Garros.
And so far is has been good to the Russian.
She has had a favorable draw so far, that much is true, and it continues as we get ready to see her in the quarterfinals match with Agnieszka Radwanska, the 12 seed and a player Sharapova has beaten six out of seven times.
Looking ahead, the biggest threats outside of Radwanska will be Victoria Azarenka, Maria Kirilenko and Li Na; if Sharapova continues to play well it will likely come down to her and Azarenka.
The chance is in front of her, the field is thinning out and if Maria Sharapova is ever going to have a shot a a career grand slam, this is the year.
