Will Maria Sharapova retire from WTA?

The former World No. 1 Maria Sharapova has knocks out of the 2011 US Open tournament by the Italian Flavia Pennetta in straight sets in the third round.


The 24-year-old Maria Sharapova has been seeded number 3 at the US Open, but failed to win the championship title for the second time. The Russian star Sharapova, who has entered into 2011 US Open event with high hopes, after winning the 2011 Cincinnati Masters two weeks ago. Sharapova has won her last Grand Slam title at Australian Open in 2008, where she has crushed Ana Ivanovic in straight sets with a 7–5 and 6–3.


The Russian star has played well in all Grand Slams in this year, as she reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, semi final of the French Open at Roland Garros and lost Wimbledon final to Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic in consecutive sets with a 6–3 and 6–4. Sharapova, who has struggled with shoulder and wrist injury in the last season, it is very tough to win a Grand Slam in 2012.


The American star Serena Williams is aiming to win her 14th singles Grand Slam at US Open, where she has reached the fourth round of the US Open event. She is going to play her fourth match against 2008 French Open champion Ana Ivanovic on Tuesday at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Serena, who has return back from injury, she is looking very strong to win Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows.
